The 2008 October Carp Match.

This coming October there is going to be a fish-in match open to all on one of the major lakes in the Alentejo. The competition date is set for the weekend starting the 3rd of October 2008 with the last day fishing being the 5th of October 2008. This match will be fished in teams of 2 anglers over a period of 3 days. The cost per angler is €450.00 (£300.00 approximately) to enter the match. This includes the entrance fee, fishing licence, a hire car and bed & breakfast for the nights of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in a near by guest-house in a local village where there is no shortage of restaurants. Also included is the welcome dinner which will be on the night of the 2nd of October and the End of Match dinner which will be on the night of the 5th of October.

What's in the pot?

1st place €5,000.00

2nd place €2,500.00

3rd place €1,500.00

4th place €1,000.00

(based on 50 anglers)

The minimum anglers required for this match to take place is 50 anglers (25 teams) to meet the pot. If this number is not met, all the competitors will be notified aproximately 6 weeks prior to the competition to inform them that the pot might be lower than stated above. There theorganisers can not guarantee the pot.

The Rules

  1. The days will consist of approximately 1 x 7 hour session each day. Fishing will only commence at the sound of the horn, although there will be a 1 hour feature finding, spodding and other forms of pre-baiting period prior to the starting horn.
  2. There will be a limit of two rods per angler at any one time, any method.
  3. We reccomend you travel to Portugal on the 2nd of October as the welcome dinner is going to be held at 7:30p.m. that night and the all-in will be at 9.00a.m. on the Friday morning.
  4. There are no age limits to fish the match, although any angler 16 or younger will have to be accompanied by either parent or guardian.
  5. All anglers wishing to take part should hold a valid fishing licence which we will obtain for you if needed. The cost of this is included in the entry fee.
  6. Flights must be arranged by you if needed.
  7. All competitors must have already booked via e-mail: October 2008 Carp Match
  8. To enter, you must book no less than 8 weeks prior to the match. No one will be allowed to fish in the match if they have not booked prior to the match as stated.
  9. A list of all booked anglers will then be taken to the Friday morning.
  10. All fish caught during the match must be retained in appropriate Carp Sacks or Carp Friendly Keep-Nets. The fish must not be retained in either slings, bags or buckets. Fish will only be weighed if in an appropriate weighing sling.
  11. All fish must be alive when weighed. Dead fish will be discarded.
  12. Once your fish have been weighed by the judge the fish must be returned to the water.
  13. Finally, your peg/swim must be kept clean and free from rubbish at all times. Any competitor found to ignore any of the competition rules will forfeit any prizes or fees that may be owed to him and black listed from taking part in any future matches.
